Few things are more important in determining the long term sustainability of any habitat than the availability of water in sufficient quantity and quality. Through the ages civilizations have always sought to locate next to reliable sources of fresh water. In contemporary times the availability of water has become a major design driver and, in some cases, a limiting factor in development.
As demographics continue to change and water becomes less available these issues will only increase in importance.
This teleconference discusses how the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Version 3 Building Rating Systems addresses the supply and demand issues of water in the built environment. Emphasis is placed on water as an influence in integrated design and how alternative sources of water supply and intelligent water demand side considerations can be central to the design and construction of high performance green buildings. An overview of the LEEDŽ Water Efficiency Prerequisite and Credits is included to familiarize the attendees with how LEEDŽ looks at the requirements and certification submission documentation for each.
Learning Objectives:
- You will be able to describe regional aspects of water regarding availability and distribution.
- You will be able to discuss water supply and demand with emphasis on water conservation and water as a renewable resource.
- You will be able to explain the LEEDŽ Water Efficiency prerequisite and credits.
- You will be able to review case studies.
